An engraved journeyman gift is what many people search for when looking for a personal journeyman gift with a name and date. At Udlært we call it a personal inscription — but the result is exactly the same: a trade-specific figurine with the journeyman's name, the date of the trade exam and, if you wish, a short greeting, permanently integrated into the figurine. It is the detail that lifts an already strong gift into something completely unique.

Why a personal inscription makes the difference
The difference between a good journeyman gift and an outstanding one is often not the price — it is the personalisation. A trade-specific figurine is strong in itself: it is specific to the trade that has been mastered, it lasts for years and can be presented ceremonially. But a figurine with the journeyman's own name and the date of the trade exam is something else. It is unique. It belongs to exactly one person and exactly one day.
That is no trivial signal. A gift bearing the recipient's name says something a gift without a name does not: we took the time to make it yours. It is the difference that decides whether the gift ends up in a drawer or stays on display for years to come.
A journeyman gift with a personal inscription is also the gift that gets photographed and shared. The day the journeyman receives the figurine with their own name and the date of their trade exam is a day that is remembered — and documented. That is the kind of moment a good gift creates.
What can be written on a personal journeyman gift
A personal inscription on a journeyman gift doesn't need to be complicated. The most common and most effective formats are simple:
Name + date: The classic and strongest combination. The journeyman's full name and the date of the trade exam. Simple, precise and timeless. "Mikkel Hansen · 14 June 2026" — more is rarely needed.
Name + date + trade or title: For those who want to underline the achievement. "Mikkel Hansen · Qualified carpenter · 14 June 2026". It doesn't repeat the information from the figurine, but reinforces it.
Name + date + short greeting: From parents, the master or colleagues who want to add something personal. "With pride — your master" or "Congratulations from the whole company" beneath the name and date. Keep it short — two lines at most.
Company or school: For companies and vocational schools ordering for several journeymen. The company's name beneath the journeyman's name gives the gift a dual identity: it is from the company, and it belongs to the journeyman. "Mikkel Hansen · Qualified carpenter · 14 June 2026 · Hansen & Sønner Tømrerfirma."
Time and again, the figurines that come back to us in customer photos — standing on a shelf, next to the journeyman's certificate — are the ones with a personal inscription. The name and date turn the figurine into a document, not just a decoration.
Trade-specific figurine with inscription — the strongest combination
A personal inscription on a generic gift is one thing. A personal inscription on a trade-specific gift is something else — and far stronger.
A carpenter figurine with the journeyman's name and the date of the trade exam is not just "a gift with a name on it". It is a precise and specific celebration of exactly the trade that has been mastered — with the name of the person who mastered it, and the date it happened. That is three layers of personality in one gift: trade specificity, personalisation and a historical marker.
It is a combination no other gift can match. A gift card is impersonal. Quality tools are generic (and require precise professional knowledge of what the journeyman already owns). A trade-specific figurine with a personal inscription is the only gift that is specific to the trade, specific to the person and specific to the day — all at once.

Who gives a personal journeyman gift
A personal journeyman gift with an inscription is relevant for anyone who wants to give something unique and lasting — but the motivation varies a little depending on the giver:
Parents and family: The personal inscription is what sets the parents' gift apart from everything else the journeyman receives that day. The family celebrates the person — and a name and a date on the figurine do exactly that in the most concrete way.
The master or the company: A gift from master to journeyman with the company's name and the journeyman's name is a professional and personal recognition at once. It tells the story of the place where the journeyman learned their trade — and can stand on display telling it for many years.
Colleagues and fellow tradespeople: A joint gift from the whole department with a shared inscription — "From your crew at Elektriker Hansen" — is a powerful signal from the community.
Vocational schools: Schools that give entire classes the same trade-specific figurine with an individual name and date create a consistent and powerful gesture. Each student gets their own — but all are from the school and from the same day.
How to order a personal journeyman gift
Ordering a personalised figurine from Udlært is simple. You choose the figurine by trade — and then specify the inscription you want. We make sure the text sits correctly and legibly on the base.
When ordering, specify:
- Name (first name + surname, or first name only — your choice)
- Date of the trade exam (day, month, year)
- Any extra line — trade, company name, short greeting
- Male or female version of the figurine
Companies and vocational schools ordering for several journeymen specify the inscription per student in the order — either as a list or via a template we send. See the business and institution page for details on business ordering.

Personalised figurines with an inscription take a little extra production time compared with standard figurines. We recommend ordering at least 2–3 weeks before the journeyman celebration to leave a good margin.
Always state the date of the celebration when ordering — we state the delivery time explicitly and confirm whether we can meet it. We are used to working towards fixed dates and prioritise delivery for the agreed day.
If you are short on time, you are welcome to contact us directly. In some cases we can bring production forward — but that is always agreed explicitly and in advance.
